Community Programs
Oakland County chapter (OCC) was chartered in 1978 by 39 African-American mothers who lived through-out Oakland County with a common goal to promote social, cultural, educational, recreational and community service opportunities for their children.
Since 1978 our Oakland County chapter membership, which consists of mothers with children ages 2-18, have actively supported the Oakland County community and fostered opportunities for young people to be successful.
For 35 years we have awarded college scholarships biennially to Oakland County high school graduates totaling over $250,000.00
The chapter has submitted and received grants awarded from the Jack and Jill Foundation to facilitate an ACT Prep Course for the Boys & Girls Club of Pontiac; provided the Pontiac Library with computers, printers, educational materials, books and videos resulting in a room dedicated to OCC.
Each year our Mother members conduct Community Service projects servicing agencies in Oakland County including:
- Path Lighthouse beautification of grounds and several programs directly impacting single mothers and their children involving health, hygiene and suit drive;
- Baldwin Center food service, party for youth and organization and donations to clothes closet;
- New Bethel Center food service along with donations of hat and scarves;
- Grace Center of Hope established a media room along with shelving, books, and videos;
- Pontiac Library book drive and organ donation registration
- Each year our Teens and Children conduct Community Service projects servicing agencies in
Oakland County including:
- The Bowen Senior Center holiday parties, bingo games and visitation
- Boys and Girls Club Saturday program tutoring and academic games
- Blood Drive with American Red Cross
